The Jungle Top Ten: Imperial Guard vs. Terminators   by Patrick Eibel
The intent of the Top Ten lists is to find creative ways to solve a problem or address a topic. Sometimes, changes will occur to the rules that would impact one of the lists, and we will try to address those changes.  Such is the case with the previous Ork vs Tank list. GW has released an FAQ that significantly improves deffrollas, which makes them the best tank-busting unit the Orks have.

Now, on to this monthís topic. We received an e-mail from a visitor wanting to know how defeat Terminators with Imperial Guard.  This is a great question. The problem with Terminators is they usually Deep Strike right up onto your gun line, giving you one turn to neutralize them before they tear a swath through your army. If they donít Deep Strike, the Terminators are just as likely to be in a dead-hard Land Raider, which presents a different set of problems.  Here are ten ideas of what you can do when faced with one or two squads of Terminators (if you are facing Deathwing, well fuhgetaboutit).

10. A squad of allied Daemonhunter Terminators. Nothing fights fire like fire, so you could take a unit of DH Termies to counterassault the enemy Terminators (and zap them with a psycannon for good measure). However, it is more than likely that there will be changes to the Induction rules when the DH codex gets revised, so donít count on this being a permanent solution.

They'll set you back some serious points (and local currency), but they're worth it

9. Psyker Battle Squad. For around 180 points, you can unleash a Strength 10 Soulstorm within 36 inches. The drawbacks: the variable AP may mean the Termies will get their armor save, and the large blast could deviate off target.

8. Deathstrike Missile Launcher. If you plan it right, you are guaranteed to hit, and most likely wound, the Terminators, but you have to wait a couple rounds to get the shot and hope nothing bad happens to the tank.

7. Leman Russ Executioner with plasma cannon sponsons. You would think five Strength 7, AP 2 shots would be just the ticket to take out Terminators. Deviating with a small blast template, though, can mean you do not score enough hits to take them out.

6.  Leman Russ Punisher with heavy bolters in sponsons and hull, and with a heavy stubber tagged on. Within 24 inches, you will unleash 32 shots from your stationary vehicle. The Terminators will get their saves, but you are bound to do some damage.

5. Ogryn Squad. Okay, the Ogryns will probably not take the Termies out, but they will tie them up for several rounds as they will not suffer Instant Death from power fists. Sometimes, throwing a speed bump in the way is all you need to do to survive.

Some sites exist to post photos of hot girls.

4. Devil Dog with a multi-melta in the hull. Two AP 1 shots are good, but the small blast template means there is a chance that you wonít get what you want.

3. Leman Russ Demolisher. You may deviate, but at least you are using the big blast template, and at Strength 10 and AP 2, whatever lands underneath is sure to take a pounding.

Vendetta, Valkyrie, whatever. We just like the cool paint job on the wings

2.  Two Vendetta Gunships. If you donít move, you can get six twin-linked lascannon shots in one round. And that does not include the guys inside, which could beÖ.

1. Two Veteran Squads with three meltaguns each. Six AP 1 shots at Ballistic Skill 4 will give the Terminators something to think about.

Melta = good. Plaz = good, too

Ultimately, you will have to devote a number of resources to take down a beastly squad like Terminators.  Hopefully some of the ideas above will prove effective.  See you all next time.
